We are excited to announce our plans to host our first event since the lockdown first began in March 2020!    Having been away for so long, we couldn't think of a better way to take the stage again than to mount our One-Act Festival, designed to provide you with an opportunity to showcase your work in front of a live audience.   Traditionally, we put out calls for scripts and follow up with a search for directors.  This time around, we're also opening up submissions to other forms of entertainment. If you have an act (eg. comedian, improv, magician, juggler. etc) then we invite you to apply too! 


We are also encouraging you to team up with your friends, colleagues or other theatre lovers to join you.  Don't worry, we will also help to round up volunteers to participate in the event. 


So if you're an up and coming (or seasoned) playwright, director or performer, take the plunge and apply for your chance to be in our Comeback Festival. If helping out backstage is more your cup of tea, let us know - we welcome you too! (We'll put out crew calls at a later date)   


In addition to inviting an in-person audience,  we are also going to live stream the event to the delight of those who prefer to enjoy the event from home!

Production Expenses/Supplies

While we can help source and offer what we already have, props, wardrobe, set pieces, etc are the responsibility of each team.

Compensation

This is a volunteer run event and organization. We do not provide any form of compensation for rights or expenses.

Submission Criteria and Requirements

Membership

You DO NOT need to be a paid member of The Oakville Players to enter your script or act for consideration. However, winning entries will be required to upgrade to full members.


For now you can sign up for a FREE FAN CLUB membership.

Content

Submissions are open to anyone and no experience is necessary. Our festival is designed to encourage both newcomers and seasoned theatre lovers to submit their script or acts.


We encourage you to submit any genre or performance type.


Rights

You (or your representative) must have the authority to submit the script or act for consideration. 


If awarded a spot in the festival, the submitter agrees to give The Oakville Players permission to present the work live, streamed live and recorded for replays, promotion and archival purposes.

Performance Length

Preferably 10 minutes or less. While we will not rule out longer scripts or acts, our aim is to provide opportunities for more to participate.


Total runtime of the event will be limited.

Venue Suitability

The limitations due to the size of the staging area plus basic lighting and sound setup will be a determining factor in whether or not your script/act is technically suitable for our festival.  The stage will likely be 16' x 24'.   


We also recommend cast/performer sizes be small as we have limited access to microphones.   Ideally, your work will require 4 or less performers.

Team Ready

Though not mandatory, a pre-assembled team of writer(s), director(s), producer(s) and performers will take the pressure off festival organizers in helping to bring your script or act to life.  More team submissions also means more scripts/works can potentially be selected as part of the festival.


In other words a team submission will score you points!  :)


Vaccination

At this time we require anyone participating in this event be fully vaccinated.   This applies to performers, crew and patrons. No exceptions. 

Covid-19 Protocols

For the safety of our volunteers and patrons, we intend to adhere to any government imposed mandates, which includes, but not limited to capacity restrictions, social distancing and mask wearing measures.  Again, no exceptions.
